Where to stay

Tourism skyrocketed 2002 when the peso was devalued, so there are many many places to stay in the city, in various barrios (neighbourhoods), so you can stay practically anywhere. Be aware that while the more expensive hotels accept credit cards, the cheaper ones and hostels only take cash or have a surcharge for paying by credit card.

Below I have provided a selcetion of hostels and hotels in various barrios in Buenos Aires, most of these include internet access, wifi, aircon and continental breakfast. Check out the websites for more information.

Microcentro (Downtown)

If you want to be close to it all and in the middle of everything then stay in microcentro, where there are the largest amount of hostels and hotels. You'll also be right next some historic and touristic places like Plaza de Mayo, San Telmo, el Obelisco and the widest road in the world: 9 (nueve) de Julio.

HI Obelisco Suites Avenida Corrientes 830, tel: 4328-4040, dorm AR$33, singles and doubles AR$70-95
Hotel Ritz Avenida de Mayo 1111, tel: 4383-9001, dorm AR$37-42, singles and doubles AR$85-130

Recoleta and Barrio Norte

Full of beautiful parques (parks), museums and boutiques, you won't be surprised to hear that Recoleta is one of Buenos Aires' richest neighbourhoods, where Barrio Norte is more of a subneighbourhood. Therefore accommodation here is not cheap, but worth it as you'll be far enough away from the centre of the city to enjoy the wonderful parques, and also close to the famous cemetary...see if you can find where Eva (Evita) Perón is buried.

Southernhouse Hostel TM de Anchorena 1117, tel: 4961-6933, dorm AR$31, single AR$84, double AR$93-140

Juncal Palace Hotel Juncal 2282, tel: 4821-2770, single AR$120, double AR$150

Palermo

The most popular choice among travelers, despite being a bit of a trek to microcentro. Palermo is full of trendy shops and boutiques, top notch restaurants and cool bars in Plaza Serrano. As well as all this, it also provides a lot of parkland for sporting activities: take a trip to Bosques de Palermo for cycling, rollerbading, jogging or just take a picnic and take in the beautiful view of the lake and the swans.
